Pensacola Police have arrested the fourth and final suspect involved in a December 24 2012 kidnapping and homicide.

Anthony Lamar Wilson, 29, no permanent address, was arrested around 9:15 tonight at a home in Ensley with assistance from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. Wilson will be booked into the Escambia County Jail on a grand jury indictment for capital murder.

“The arrest of Anthony Wilson is the result of the hard work and persistence of our officers to put the fourth suspect and final suspect behind bars to answer for this crime,” said Pensacola Police Chief Chip W. Simmons.

On June 5, Deontrez Levon Kitt, 27, was taken into custody around 2:30 p.m. at a residence in the 5300 block of North Blue Angel Parkway. He was charged with capital murder on a grand jury indictment.

Two other males – Deavis Saulsberry, 24, and Trevon Nelson, 28, both of Pensacola – also have been charged with capital murder for the December 24, 2012, kidnapping and murder of Torrance Hackworth, 32, of 1321 North J St., Pensacola.

Around 2:45 a.m. on December 24, the suspects approached Hackworth when he arrived at his residence. They then forced him into the apartment, bound him with duct tape and held him in the apartment.

One of the males awakened Hackworth’s 36-year-old girlfriend and their four children, ranging in age from four to 10, and ordered them at gunpoint into the living room. As all six residents were held hostage, the suspects ransacked the house, demanded money and stole various items.

When Hackworth insisted he didn’t have any money because he had bought Christmas presents for the children, the suspects said they were going to kill him. The suspects then beat and struck Hackworth several times with a firearm in front of the woman and children before dragging him outside and putting him into the truck of the woman’s vehicle, which they used to flee the scene.

Approximately two to three hours after the abduction, the woman’s vehicle was found partially submerged at the SandersBeach boat launch. Hackworth was shot several times and his body was found December 26 in a vacant lot in the 1600 block of North S Street. The incident is believed to have been drug related.

Agencies that assisted the Pensacola Police Department with the investigation were the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, Gun Crime Response Team, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, and State Attorney’s Office.

Whenever a dangerous situation occurs on the streets, and K-9 Officer David Rogers is working, chances are he’ll probably be one of the responding officers.

Such was the case recently when he was one of the officers who responded to a shooting at Watson and Blount streets where a woman was shot in the face during a disturbance inside a vehicle. After the victim got out of the vehicle, the driver fled the scene and a description of the vehicle was broadcast to officers.

Officer Rogers and another officer spotted the vehicle at Bayou Boulevard and Cervantes Street and tried to stop it, but the driver refused and fled on Cervantes. The pursuit ended at X and Cervantes streets when the driver was pinned by Officer Rogers’ vehicle.

While trying to take the suspect into custody, Officer Rogers saw him reached for something on the floorboard. Officer Rogers then fired two rounds in the suspect’s direction to get him to stop. At that time, the suspect was taken into custody and a revolver was found on the driver’s floorboard.

The suspect was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, fleeing/eluding, and grand theft auto. The female victim was hospitalized for treatment of a single gunshot wound to her face.

Because of his outstanding police skills on this incident, Officer David Rogers was named Officer of the Month for June 2013.

07/26/2013 Officer of the Month for July

She may be a rookie, but within a very short time, Officer Tamika Barkers has proven she has a knack for finding criminals.

            For example:

            – She found a felony amount of marijuana during a citizen contact with a disabled vehicle.

            – She routinely checks areas for suspicious activity. On one of those recent checks, she found a man camping behind a grocery store. Officer Barkers returned to the area after recognizing the man from a department intel and found a portable meth lab.

            – She responded to a hit and run crash and was given a description of the suspect and vehicle. A few days later, Officer Barkers was dispatched to a domestic violence disturbance…and realized the female victim matched the description of one from the hit and run, was wearing an outfit matching the earlier description, and a car parked in the driveway had damage consistent with the hit and run investigation she had worked. When the female was confronted with the evidence, she fled the scene. A warrant was initiated for her arrest.

Because of her tenacity and curiosity, Officer Tamika Barkers was named Officer of the Month for July 2013.
